Roe v. Wade case in the USA

The case "Roe v. Wade" is one of the most controversial and significant legal cases in U.S. history. It dates back to the early 1970s when Norma McCorvey, known by the pseudonym "Jane Roe," filed a lawsuit against Henry Wade, the District Attorney of Dallas County, Texas. The case began in 1970 when Norma McCorvey, pregnant and seeking an abortion, challenged Texas laws that only allowed abortion if the mother's life was at risk. "Roe" argued that these laws were unconstitutional because they violated her right to privacy guaranteed by the Fourteenth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. On January 22, 1973, the U.S. Supreme Court issued its landmark ruling in the case, declaring that laws prohibiting abortion without considering the stage of pregnancy or the mother's health violated the right to privacy protected under the Fourteenth Amendment. The Court ruled 7-2 in favor of "Roe," effectively overturning laws that restricted abortion in many U.S. states. The Court affirmed that women have a constitutional right to abortion during the first trimester of pregnancy, granted governments some authority to regulate abortion in the second trimester, and allowed states to impose greater restrictions in the third trimester. The "Roe v. Wade" case did not end the debate over abortion rights in the United States. Legal and political discussions continued for decades, with many states attempting to enact new laws restricting abortion, which were challenged in courts. In recent years, there have been intensified efforts across the country to reconsider this decision. In June 2022, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the decision of "Roe v. Wade" in the case of "Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization," giving states the ability to independently regulate or ban abortion.
